Editorial Policy
Last updated: June 2026
MedAlertGuide covers Medicare Supplement (Medigap) insurance plans and medical alert systems — topics that directly affect the health, safety, and financial wellbeing of seniors. We treat this responsibility seriously. This policy describes how content is created, reviewed, and maintained on this site.
Editorial Independence
MedAlertGuide's editorial content is produced independently of commercial relationships. Insurers, medical alert companies, and other commercial entities cannot pay for favorable coverage, higher rankings, or editorial placement. Our rankings and recommendations are based solely on publicly verifiable facts: CMS standardized benefit data, Medicare.gov pricing, published device specifications, and expert analysis.
Content Standards
Medicare Plan Content
- All Medigap benefit information is sourced from CMS Publication 02110 (Choosing a Medigap Policy) and the official CMS standardized benefit chart
- Premium data is sourced from Medicare.gov Plan Finder data, updated at a minimum annually to reflect CMS-published changes
- Annual cost-sharing figures (deductibles, premiums, coinsurance) are drawn directly from official CMS announcements
- State-specific information (rating methods, birthday rules, DOI contacts) is verified against state insurance department sources
Medical Alert Device Reviews
- Device specifications and pricing are based on publicly available product information
- We disclose the date information was collected on each review page
- We do not accept free devices, subsidized plans, or compensation from companies in exchange for reviews
- Ratings reflect our editorial assessment of features, pricing transparency, monitoring quality, and value
Author Qualifications
All Medicare plan content on this site is reviewed by a licensed insurance professional before publication. Each content page displays a byline with the author and reviewer credentials, along with published and last-reviewed dates.
We do not publish content under generic bylines such as "admin," "site editor," or "staff writer." Named authors with verifiable credentials are required for all health and insurance content. See our Editorial Team page for author biographies.
Review Cycle
Medicare costs and regulations change annually. Our review schedule:
- Annual full review: All Medicare plan pages are comprehensively updated when CMS announces the following year's premiums and deductibles (typically October–November)
- Quarterly checks: We verify that key data points (premium ranges, deductibles, enrollment dates) remain accurate each quarter
- Event-triggered updates: Content is updated promptly when major regulatory changes occur (e.g., Inflation Reduction Act changes to Part D)
- Next review date: Every page displays a "Next Review Due" date, and pages flagged for imminent review display an amber notification
Corrections Policy
When errors are identified — whether reported by readers, found in internal review, or resulting from CMS data updates — we correct them promptly. Corrections are published on the affected page with a notation of what was changed. Significant factual corrections are noted in the page's modification date.

YMYL Compliance
Medicare insurance and medical safety are Your Money or Your Life (YMYL) topics — information that can significantly impact health, safety, or financial wellbeing. We apply Google's Search Quality Evaluator Guidelines standards for YMYL content:
- Experience: Content is written and reviewed by people with subject-matter expertise
- Expertise: Licensed insurance professionals review all plan content
- Authoritativeness: We cite primary sources (CMS, Medicare.gov, SSA)
- Trustworthiness: We disclose our editorial process, commercial relationships, and data sources
What We Do Not Do
- Accept payment to rank or recommend specific plans or devices
- Publish sponsored content disguised as editorial content
- Make medical or personalized insurance advice claims
- Use anonymous or unverifiable author bylines for YMYL content
- Obscure commercial relationships or affiliate connections
