Medicare Supplement Cost Calculator

Estimate what you might pay for Medicare Supplement Plan G or Plan N in your state. Enter your details below to get a realistic 2026 premium range.

About These Estimates

Medicare Supplement premiums vary significantly between insurers, even for identical coverage. The ranges shown here are based on market averages in each state for 2026 and are intended as a starting point, not a guarantee. The only way to get an accurate quote is to contact multiple licensed insurers or work with an independent broker who can compare rates on your behalf.

Premiums shown are for a 65-year-old non-smoking female as the baseline. Adjustments for age, gender, and tobacco use are estimates based on typical industry multipliers and will vary by carrier and state.

Why Premiums Vary by State

Each state regulates Medigap differently. States using community rating (CA, CT, HI, MA, ME, MN, NJ, NY, VT, WA, WI, DC) charge the same premium regardless of age. States using issue-age rating (MD, and a few others) lock your rate at enrollment. Most states use attained-age rating, where your premium rises as you get older.

How to Read Your Result

The range shows the low and high averages we have on file for your state, adjusted for the age, gender, and tobacco choices you entered. The "typical" figure is a central estimate. If your real quotes fall well outside the range, that usually means you are comparing different rating methods or a different insurer tier, not that the estimate is wrong. Ask each insurer whether its quote is attained-age, issue-age, or community rated so you compare like with like.

Ways to Lower Your Medigap Premium

  • Compare insurers for the same plan letter. Benefits are identical, and premiums for the same coverage can differ substantially.
  • Ask about discounts. Many insurers discount for households, for paying annually, or for non-tobacco use.
  • Consider Plan N or High-Deductible Plan G. Both trade a lower premium for more cost-sharing. See Plan G vs Plan N.
  • Buy during your Medigap Open Enrollment Period. You cannot be turned down or charged more for health reasons, and it is the most reliable way to lock in a lower rate tier.
  • Use a Birthday Rule if your state has one. Some states let you switch to a cheaper plan each year without health questions.
